You get to select the flooring (tile, hardwoods, or carpeting), paint colors, wallcoverings, lighting finishing, stair finishes and railings, new furnishings. You also have the option of expansion, maybe finishing out a basement.

Make a list of your must haves, just like you would if you were shopping for a new house. If you need more closet space, be sure to include that on your renovation must have list. If you entertain a lot, consider doing an open floor plan or making a larger island. If you are a big cook, design your kitchen around a double oven. If you’re an avid reader, consider adding a library to your space. We all want our dream home but we often think our existing home can’t be that.
