CHOOSING THE RIGHT WINDOW TREATMENTS
Choosing the right window treatments can sometimes be confusing. Some people avoid putting them up all together because they are unsure of how to install the rods or shades properly. However, once installed curtains, blinds, and window shades can provide your space with an interchangeable design for years to come.
Traditionally silk curtains are for more formal areas of the home like the living room and bedroom. Whereas, canvas styled curtains are traditionally seen in children’s rooms. Before shopping for curtains measure your window, one common mistake is hanging curtains too long or too short. Curtains and shades come in so many various fabrics, prints, and lengths. There are also several different methods for hanging curtains such as through grommets, back tabs, or curtain rings. One tip to remember when you are preparing your space for a well-designed look, is to hang the curtains as close to the ceiling as possible, doing so will create visual height and interest.
Often people think if you have blinds, you don’t necessarily have to have drapes. I personally prefer both, the blinds provide added privacy and the drapes complete the design look. Wooden, plantation, and venetian blinds are the most popular looks present day.
Window Shades are also a great option because they are functional, come in various colors, control the exact of amount of light you wish to bring into your home, and provide privacy when needed. Blackout Shades typically provide the most privacy.
