WALL TRENDS: PAINTED PATTERNS
It’s been said over and over again, that the fastest, most inexpensive, yet drastic way to change a space is with paint color. Well I’m here to say it all again. And if you are like me, getting tired of plain walls, you’re ready for a change. Some of you may know how much I love wallpaper, and all of its drama and interest. I love how it can instantly change the mood of a room and create hotel vibes. Well wallpaper isn’t going anywhere, and it’s still one of my favorite options, but I have to consider the many paint trends popping up for 2021 and 2022. And yes, I know everyone hates the word “trend”. This is however, is a trend we love on so many levels. One reason being, we can easily change it (paint over it) if we don’t love it in the next few year.
We love this bold geometric black and white pattern created for a powder room. We love high drama in powder rooms, mainly because guests are more likely to travel here. We also love to utilize a fun paint design in a powder room, because so often tile is expected here, and a bold painted on pattern is a lot less expensive than purchasing tile and paying someone to install it.
Now check out this image below. It features a warm purple and a cooler pink hue for its ceiling. Instead of using the traditional crown molding, they’ve opted to create the illusion of crown molding by painting it on. While we love this trend, we realize it will require a professional.
We love these next three as well. Here they created the same concept as the picture above, but they created a greater distance from the ceiling to border. This provides the same effect as adding trim work where traditionally you would make the wainscoting /board and batten a contrasting color. The illusion, again, is created here with paint.
You can also expect to see warm jewel tones and painted ceilings in upcoming designs. Adding color on the walls, always takes the pressure off of the artwork and it showcases the details of neutral furnishings. We love this photo below from Pinterest that matches the blush ceiling with the blush upholstered headboard on this canopy bed.
And lastly expect the see dark wall colors. They are here to stay. Darker colors add a level of moodiness and sophistication to smaller spaces. Try this look out in a small home library or powder room. Take the amount of natural lighting and overhead lighting into consideration when selected these darker hues.
